General Information

Take your kids and hit the road ! Academic Bowl is a great opportunity to go one on one against your cross county rivals. Students prepare for competition by honing their study skills and in the process they learn! Academic Bowl gives your students to the opportunity to receive recognition for what they know.
The OAAC offers Academic Bowl opportunities for students in grades 4-9.
A school may enter multiple teams in any level of academic bowl. A separate entry fee is required for each team.

Competition Questions:
Questions for all levels of OAAC academic bowl are based on current curriculum and come from a pool of question writers using current adopted text books and PASS standards.

Pairings:
Pairings for entered teams will be posted on the OAAC web site at oaac.org.
Competition Dates:
Online planning meetings for all tournaments will be held between October 13 & 30 using vyew.com, an online meeting room, phone, fax and e-mail. Information about the time & method of the planning meeting will be posted with the pairings and e-mailed to each coach. With the exception of the mid level Challenge of the Champions, each group will set their own dates and location for competitions.

Format:
All tournaments are round robin tournaments or modified round robin tournaments.

4th Grade
The fourth grade competition is two separate round robin tournaments. The first tournament may be held anytime on or after November 1 and the second tournament may be scheduled for the spring semester. Some groups may choose to have both tournaments after semester break. Participating schools serve as host sites.
ENTRY FEE $70 per team - fee covers both tournaments.


5th Grade
The fifth grade competition is two separate round robin tournaments. The first tournament may be held anytime on or after November 1 and the second tournament may be scheduled for the spring semester. Some groups may choose to have both tournaments after semester break. Participating schools serve as host sites.
ENTRY FEE $70 per team - fee covers both tournaments.


Upper Elementary Series (5 & 6)
A three tournament series for students in grades 5 & 6. The tournament season runs from November 1 through April. All teams participate in district and regional with the top qualifying team advancing to area. Those schools not advancing to area will have the opportunity to participate in a Phoenix tournament. Schools are divided into large and small school divisions. Participating schools serve as host sites. ENTRY FEE - $100 per team - fee covers the series.


Middle Level Series (7 & 8)
A four tournament series for students in grades 7 & 8. Schools are divided into three size divisions based on both total school enrollment or school location and tournament series enrollment. The tournament season runs from November 1 through February 21. All teams participate in district and regional with the top four teams qualifying for area. The schools that do not advance to area will have the opportunity to participate in a Phoenix tournament. The top two area teams are invited to participate in the Challenge of the Champions on February 21, 2009. Participating schools serve as host sites. ENTRY FEE - $120 per team

Freshman Academic Bowl Series
Teams participate in four tournaments from November 1 through March. All teams participate in all four tournaments. Each tournament emphasizes a different subject areas: mathematics, social studies, science, and humanities. The questions will be heavy in the specified area but will also include questions from other subject areas. A final champions tournament will be held in late March or mid April 2009 @ RCC. To qualify for the champions tournament a team win one of the four area of concentration tournaments.
ENTRY FEE - $130 per team - fee covers all four tournaments.
