Upper Elementary Academic Bowl

Upper Elementary Academic Bowl is for students in the 5th and 6th grade. The team may be comprised of all 5th grade students or all 6th grade students or a combination of both. Younger students may play up. Post 6th grade students may not play on a UEL team. Schools may enter multiple teams. A separate entry fee is required for each team. UEL Teams are assigned to area groups after the enrollment period has ended.

Younger students may play up but students post-6th grade may not play on an Upper Elementary Team.


Playoff Structure and Competition Dates

All OAAC tournaments are round robin events.

All teams play in the district and regional tournaments. The rank of a team in District competition will determine the future path.  Each team is guaranteed at least 3 tournaments. UEL competition end at the Area Championship.

Competition Dates

Below are the date ranges for the 2019-20 season.

District - December 2 -20

Regional - January 14-24

Firebird - January 27 - February 14

Area Championships- February 22

Phoenix - February 25

Planning Dates and Locations

We use Google Docs to share dates and plan for each level of tournament. You will receive a link to the Google Doc for your group when you receive your Area assignment.

Format
All OAAC tournaments are round robin or modified round robin tournaments. All OAAC tournaments use the OAAC Academic Bowl Rules.

Awards
Each school will receive eight OAAC competition certificates. In addition 8 stickers per tournament attended by the team - District, Regional, Firebird, Area, and/or Phoenix - will be provided to go on the certificates.

If you have more than 8 team members, additional certificates and stickers may be purchased.

Team Champion and Runner-up plaques are given at each of the preliminary tournaments. 

Area Champion through 4th place plaques, coaches awards and individual medals are awarded at each area championship tournament.
